💡 Building a Business that’s Fun: Embracing “Business as Unusual”

When it comes to building a business, there’s a certain magic in making it an enjoyable, authentic journey rather than a rule-following grind. For many, business success is often tied to rigid best practices, meticulous planning, and industry standards. But for those of us on the “Business as Unusual” path, it’s all about trusting our gut, staying open to intuition, and believing, “If it is to be, the Universe will reveal it to me.”

🎯 Why “Business as Unusual” is a Game-Changer.

“Business as Unusual” means stepping off the beaten path, discarding the conventional advice that often leads to burnout or a sense of obligation. It’s about creating a business that aligns with who you are, not just what’s “proven” to work. Best practices can be a fantastic resource, but if they don’t resonate with you, then where’s the fun in that?

For me, building a business has been more of an unfolding than a structured plan. Rather than meticulously calculating every step, I ask myself, “What feels like the right next move?” By following my instincts and leaning into trust, the journey becomes less about meeting benchmarks and more about joyfully expressing my unique vision.

🌍 Letting the Universe Take the Lead.

One of the most freeing aspects of this approach is the belief that “If it is to be, the Universe will reveal it to me.” Trusting that everything I need will appear at the right time helps me avoid getting stuck in analysis paralysis. Instead, I focus on showing up, putting myself out there, and staying open to signs and nudges from the Universe.

So, how do I make decisions? I let the energy of my business flow where it feels naturally compelling. Some days, that might mean diving into a creative project, while other days, it’s about connecting with someone who just happens to bring an idea or opportunity I hadn’t thought of. There’s a lightness and ease in this approach that makes every day feel more like play than work.

🎊 Making Business Fun Again.

“Fun”
might seem out of place in discussions about building a business, but it’s actually a powerful motivator. When you enjoy the process, the results follow.

Here’s how I keep the fun front and center:

  1. Embrace Surprises: I let go of the need to control every outcome. This openness creates space for surprise meetings, serendipitous discoveries, and opportunities that add a fresh energy to my work. Each new surprise feels like a nod from the Universe saying, “You’re on the right path.”
  2. Follow My Intuition: Instead of relying solely on data or “expert advice,” I tune into what feels like the next right step. Intuition is a powerful tool, and trusting it often leads me to more aligned decisions.
  3. Let the Journey Unfold: In my experience, every business has a life of its own, and I’m simply along for the ride. My role is to nurture it, but I don’t have to know the final destination. “Business as Unusual” teaches me that the journey is often more rewarding than the outcome.
  4. Prioritize Well-Being: A fun business is a sustainable business. I make it a point to prioritize self-care, creativity, and downtime, allowing these to fuel my work instead of running myself to the ground.

⚖️ Balancing Intuition and Practicality.

Now, that’s not to say I throw all structure out the window. Certain basics help keep the business running smoothly. But rather than feeling restricted, these foundational practices simply support the spontaneous, intuitive decisions I’m making. It’s less about forcing things into a rigid system and more about ensuring I have room to play and explore.

🚀 “Business as Unusual”: The Path of Unscripted Success.

When you stop trying to “crack the code” of business and, instead, let your unique path unfold, magic happens. You stop feeling boxed in by others’ rules and start creating a business that truly reflects you. This freedom allows you to enjoy every step, knowing that the Universe has your back and will reveal the next steps at the perfect time.

If building a business feels overwhelming or lacks excitement, maybe it’s time to try “Business as Unusual.” Trust your gut, embrace the mystery, and know that if it’s meant to be, the Universe will reveal it to you. Let your business journey be a fun, fulfilling adventure that brings you joy as well as success.

This is how we played last week in our first Business Builder…

The first day of our new program “Business Builders” is specifically designed to empower our certified Transformational Life Coaches to take the right steps to build their coaching practice and business.

It was such a fun time as we got to create something from nothing and experience the creative process with Play-Doh and sketching! Who said you have to stop playing just because you’re a grown-up. 🤹

Just look at those big smiles! Business can be fun and building one requires that you have both the intention and a sense of humour. For me, it’s never been “business as usual” but rather “Business as Unusual.”

I’ve discovered that following some sort of best practice doesn’t work for me and I’ve always had a gut feel for what I need to do next. Now I get to teach what I’ve learnt about living the life that reveals itself to me rather than the one I was told I had to MAKE happen.

I heard this on a podcast “Living into Your Brilliance” with Alan Kenney and Mark Bilos and it sums it up beautifully “If it is to be, the Universe will reveal it to me.”
